The Institute for Northeast Asian Future (INAF) is a private, non-profit, independent think tank that aims to contribute to intellectual accumulation, intellectual creation, intellectual contribution, and pioneering roles for peace and prosperity in the international community through research and exchange activities related to cooperation in the Northeast Asian region. In other words, it is social entrepreneurship as a think tank.

With the aim of stability, peace and prosperity in the Northeast Asian region where we live, we registered as a general incorporated association in October 2020 thanks to the efforts of intellectual leaders in Japan and other Northeast Asian countries as a platform for facing the reality and building a vision and strategy for the future, and conducting realistic and empirical research and surveys and multifaceted international research and exchange activities for that purpose.

While the Northeast Asian region is now the growth center of the world economy, it is also the front line of the struggle for hegemony among the world powers. Riding the wave of globalization and the collapse of the Cold War, the possibility of building an international economic zone has been attracting attention since the early 1990s, and we have entered an era of cross-border regional cooperation, but now, 30 years later, I feel that we have returned to the era of confrontation and confrontation as a “new Cold War.”

In this turbulent period of history, there are many issues that we need to address. However, philosophical thinking is required, in which there are more ways to solve problems based on the wisdom of humanity than the problems faced by humankind. To this end, the role of a think tank is to accumulate human wisdom and engage in intellectual activities aimed at solving problems.

Because it is the season of winter, we need to prepare for the season of spring. This institute brings together researchers and activists from Northeast Asian countries to become a team that transcends borders and racial and aims to work together for the historical mission of guiding the arrival of “spring” with philosophy and passion, and to create peace and prosperity in the region with your strength and wisdom in order to fulfill this historical mission.
